Scene and Heard: AlailaLee

The lovely knitwear accessory mogul Alaila recently reached out for an interview. She's an inspiring accessory designer and I am glad to feature a part of her journey. You are never too old or too young to follow any of your dreams. Check out www.alailalee.com and her quick interview!

First off introduce yourself and your online store to all of my readers who may not know you.
Hello Malibu Readers, my name is AlailaLee. I am a 17 year old entrepreneur, owning my own online knitwear store.
I wish I knew how to knit... My beanie game would be sick LOL. What sparked your interest in knitting and making knit accessories?
LOL. I plan on making beanies so your "sick beanie game" dream can come true thanks to Alailalee. It was always a dream of mine to knit, I just love the concept. You start off with balls of yarn and your end result could be a pair of gloves, hat, scarf... The list virtually has no end! I simply find sewing amazing. It's hard to describe something so significant to me in just a few sentences.
Do you want to expand and create other items eventually? If so what ideas do you have?
Yes, I definitely plan on expanding the material. Alailalee is new to the market so I am taking baby steps right now. I have many designs and creations in my book. Alailalee's future holds more beanies for Malibu Mara , scarves, gloves, shirts , sweaters and so much more!

Haha, Malibumara Loves beanies!
If you could collaborate with any designer who would it be?

That’s a hard one, they're so many brilliant designers out there. I would have to say Melody Ehsani. There is just something about her and her designs that I truly love. I feel I would have a connection with her because I faithfully love her pieces! According to Ehsani, "How can I make this better?" This is a question I always ask myself because there is always room for improvement. Ehsani has inspired me though her designs as well as her character.
Ahh, Melody Ehsani was one of the first interviews I've ever done. You're in great company.
Did you have a lot of support when you had this idea to create and sell?
Yes I had a lot of support. I think because people saw I was serious and how ambitious I was they had no choice but to support. There will always be those though that will oppose your vision because everyone has nay sayers. I don’t let people comments concern me because Walt Disney was called not creative , Marilyn Monroe was told she could not act. If they would have listen to the people who told them that than, their legacy would not be living on till this day.
Do you have any advice for anyone else who is young and wants to start their own line?
Once you realize what your heart beats for go for it. Do your research and do it , because if you don’t no one else will do it for you. It’s not always easy but the journey is worth the ride and the ending result will alert you that you did all for the right reasons.
What is one of the best things you have learned so far when creating Alalia Lee?
Self independence, I did a lot on my own but some situations that I have went through taught me that no one will love and put as much effort into Alaila Lee as me. I have so much more to learn as my brand continues to grow.

Thanks again for this interview, Do you have any last words for the readers of MalibuMara?
